A MARKET GARDEN FOR THE PEOPLE AND THE PLANET
We must reconnect with our food. We must return to being able to see the food we eat growing in the fields around where we live. Locally grown food is not only the antidote for healthier and happier communities. It is also the greatest tool we have to repair our planet and to return the biodiversity of our wildlife.
COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP – THE 10 ACRE DREAM
The land around us was once owned in common and we shared in its beauty and abundance. Community ownership will allow us once again to collectively own the land, not speculatively for future development but, for the benefit of us all, the planet and our future generations.
THE PLAN – HAPPY FOOD FARM, WETHERDEN (10.5 ACRES)
Yellow and Green – Market Garden and Orchard
- to produce fruit and vegetables for 100 – 200 households. It would bring in money to fund the idea, create jobs and boost the village economy.
Blue – Food Forest
- an edible green space for the village and great for education plus provides food security against the increasingly volatile growing seasons.
Purple – Wild Space
- a priceless refuge for wildlife and help to reverse the biodiversity loss emergency.
COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE
The community land ownership will be supplemented with a CSA scheme. The support from a foundation of 60 full CSA members – people committed to the full growing season (est. £60 a month) would bring security to the project and allow orchard, food forest and wild area to be planted.
EASTERN REGENERATIVE LAND SOCIETY
A community society that enables people to collectively own land. Each £250 share allows a member an equal vote and therefore it is people not money that is collectively empowered. We want to raise £100k for the 10.5 acre Wetherden site with ownership ranging from £250 to £5000
